RAVE-O (Reading through Automaticity, Vocabulary, Engagement and Orthography) is a literacy programme based on the science of the brain and reading. It is an evidenced based intervention for learners struggling to read in grades 2 to 5 and has shown to be effective across socio-economic, cultural and home language backgrounds. The programme uses a cognitive approach to make connections between sounds, word parts, multiple meanings, grammar and spelling patterns.
RAVE-O has fifteen years of proven success in the USA and a decade of successful implementation in our school as a whole class approach and in a therapeutic context. This workshop will illuminate the neurological underpinnings of the programme, providing insight into the reading brain and the strategies proven to improve literacy. It doesn’t include the RAVE-O materials, which are available to purchase through an independent supplier.
