Children who enter schooling with solid early literacy and numeracy skills have an advantage throughout their school years. This evidence-based workshop will focus on the development of early literacy and numeracy skills and how teachers can facilitate these skills through playful activities as well as explicit instruction. We will explore the use of mediated learning and time will be devoted to the early identification of children at risk for learning difficulties.
The workshop will be presented by a team of four Bellavista specialists who are passionate about evidence-based early learning, and who have recently completed training at an international level on this topic. Annelize Clark is an Occupational Therapist who has a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Intervention. Her interest lies in early identification and intervention of learning difficulties. Jeannine Cloete is an experienced Remedial Therapist and an expert in developing resources and games that will stimulate literacy and numeracy learning in a fun way. Margareta Holleran is an experienced ECD teacher who has an interest in learning through exploration. Natasha Joao is also a foundation phase teacher with a love for both literacy and numeracy. Her passion lies in incorporating technology into the learning environment.
